Books

There are so many useful books on a variety of topics, and I just have a few on this list, but it’s a start.

I love Rachel Remen’s books, and I think that you will, too. Her stories are inspirational and deeply meaningful.

Rachel Naomi Remen:
"Kitchen Table Wisdom: Stories That Heal"
"My Grandfather's Blessings"

This book compiles a lot of research and experience, personal and medical, about a complete way to treat and deal with cancer.

David Servan-Schreiber MD, PhD:
“Anticancer”

Jon Kabat-Zinn developed the “Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction” course through the University of Massachusetts Medical School (see the link above)

Jon Kabat-Zinn:
"Full Catastrophe Living: Using the Wisdom of Your Body and Mind to Face Stress, Pain, and Illness"

Mark Williams, John Teasdale, Zindel Segal, Jon Kabat-Zinn:
"The Mindful Way through Depression: Freeing Yourself from Chronic Unhappiness"

This small book was a helpful way for me to think of being in the moment.

Thich Nhat Hanh:
''Present Moment Wonderful Moment''

This book is about the complexities of transformation during difficult times.

John Tarrant:
''The Light Inside the Dark''

I found this explanation of the teenage brain and how it influences behavior helpful in understanding my own teens.

Barbara Strauch:
''The Primal Teen''

I attended a workshop given by Howard Glasser some years ago, and I find this approach very helpful in its basic principle of providing constant positive notice of the child as the foundation of the structure that children need.

Howard Glasser,Jennifer Easley:
''Transforming the Difficult Child: The Nurtured Heart Approach''

It’s fun to find out the science that underlies what we feel.

Candace Pert:
''Molecules of Emotion"
